Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:


Maintenance duties include but are not limited to; sign inspection and replacement, tree inspection and painting, prescribed burning, herbicide application and chainsaw operation. Employee will assist the Forestry Branch with burning activities and ensure the protection of all Red Cockaded Woodpecker (RCW) trees within the burn areas. Other duties might include data entry, GPS navigation, training, planting, weed-eating, mowing, and equipment operation (tractor, bobcat, dozer, back-hoe, dump truck). This type of work is 95% outdoors, strenuous and requires a high-energy person.

Qualifications

Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions. Must be able to obtain burning certificates and herbicide license within two months of being hired. Must have good oral communication skills, demonstrate motivation, and be a self starter with the ability to make sound decisions and act decisively under stress. The ability to prepare written routine reports with general knowledge of computers utilizing Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Word. Must be physically able to conduct forestry field work utilizing hand tools, rakes, backpack sprayers, and chainsaws

Education Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year technical college with an Associates Degree in Forestry, Wildlife, Natural Resources, Engineering, or Environmental Science.
  • Must obtain burning certificates and herbicide license within two months of being hired.
  • Applicant must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's license.
